Investigation on the Status of Vaccine Cold Chain Storage and Transportation Equipment in Qingdao's Licang District in 2023

Abstract: Objective To investigate and analyze the status of vaccine cold chain storage and transportation equipment in Licang District, Qingdao City, in 2023. Methods The study targeted all units with vaccine cold chain storage and transportation equipment in Licang District, Qingdao City, from January 2023 to December 2023, including hospitals, community health service centers vaccination clinics, and district disease control centers. Relevant data were collected to statistically analyze the number of units participating in the survey, the average number of cold chain storage and transportation equipment in different types of units, the average service life of the equipment, and the configuration rate of automatic temperature monitoring devices in the equipment. Results A total of 33 institutions were surveyed: 5 hospital obstetric clinics (15.15%), 27 community health service center vaccination clinics (81.82%), and 1 disease control center (3.03%). Among the 5 hospital obstetric clinics, there are 5 regular refrigerators with an average service life of (7.01±1.58) years; and 5 small refrigerators for vaccination stations with an average service life of (7.58±1.62) years.The 27 community health service center vaccination clinics include 57 regular refrigerators with an average service life of (7.25±1.51) years; 86 smart refrigerators with an average service life of (3.22±1.11) years; 1 low-temperature freezer with a service life of 7 years; 120 cold storage boxes with an average service life of (4.97±2.19) years; and 83 small refrigerators for vaccination stations with an average service life of (4.24±1.67) years. The disease control center includes 2 regular cold storage units with an average service life of 7.5 years; 1 low-temperature freezer with a service life of 10 years; 43 cold storage boxes with an average service life of (5.12±1.02) years; and 1 cold chain transport vehicle with a service life of 13 years. The configuration rate of automatic temperature monitoring devices for regular refrigerators, smart refrigerators, low-temperature freezers, cold storage boxes and cold chain transport vehicles in the region was 100%, with a temperature measurement accuracy of ±0.5 ℃. Conclusion In 2023, the vaccine cold chain storage and transportation equipment in Licang District, Qingdao City, met the requirements for vaccine delivery in the region and showed a relatively fast update rate. For institutions with fewer devices, it is recommended to consider increasing the types and quantities of equipment to meet higher storage and transportation demands. It is also suggested to strengthen equipment maintenance and regular updates to ensure the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine cold chain.
