Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of traditional Chinese medicine Yijinjing on the changes of bone mineral density and bone microstructure in elderly patients with osteoporosis. Methods Eighty-eight elderly patients with osteoporosis who were diagnosed and treated in the Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Nanyang Medical College from August 2018 to December 2021 were selected as the research objects. Accorded to the 1:1 allocation principle of the random number table methods, the patients were divided into Yijinjing group and control group with 44 cases in each group. The control group were given traditional aerobic exercise and weight-bearing exercise for rehabilitation, and the Yijinjing group were given traditional Chinese medicine Yijinjing rehabilitation on the basis of the rehabilitation of the control group. The rehabilitation and exercise were observed in both groups for 6 months, and changes in bone mineral density and bone microstructure were detected and recorded. Results After rehabilitation, the total effective rates of Yijinjing group was higher than that in control group, but there was no statistical significance between two groups (P>0.05). The bone mineral density of the lumbar spine L2-L4 in the Yijinjing group and the control group after rehabilitation were significantly higher than that before treatment (P<0.05), and the Yijinjing group were also significantly higher than the control group after rehabilitation (P<0.05). The distance of trabecular bone after rehabilitation in the two groups were significantly higher than that before rehabilitation (P<0.05), and the thickness of trabecular bone were significantly lower than that before rehabilitation (P<0.05). The content of serum calcium and phosphorus in Yijinjing group and control group after rehabilitation were higher than those before rehabilitation (P<0.05), and the Yijinjing group after rehabilitation were also significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of traditional Chinese medicine Yijinjing in elderly patients with osteoporosis can improve bone mineral density and overall rehabilitation effect, improve the bone microstructure of patients, and promote the increase of blood calcium and blood phosphorus content in patients.
