Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of acupoint electroacupuncture on lumbar disc herniation and its effect on pain. Methods From January 2020 to March 2023,160 patients with lumbar disc herniation were randomly divided into two groups using a random number table method, 80 cases in each group. The control group was treated with traction, and the observation group was combined with acupoint electroacupuncture on the basis of the control group. Patients were evaluated before and after treatment using the visual analogue scale(VAS) and Japanese Orthopaedic Society (JOA) scoring system to evaluate short-term efficacy, and were followed up for 3 months to understand pain recurrence. Results Compared with baseline, the total score of JOA in both groups after treatment was significantly increased (P<0.05), and the total score of JOA in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05).The total effective rate of observation group(93.75%) was significantly higher than that of control group (77.50%)(P<0.05).After 3 months of follow-up, the severity of pain recurrence in the observation group was significantly less than that in the control group (P<0.05), and the frequency and duration of pain attack were significantly less than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Acupoint electroacupuncture treatment for lumbar disc herniation has a clear effect, can effectively relieve back and leg pain, and reduce the recurrence of pain, improve the short-term clinical effect.
