Research Progress of the Tibetan Medicine “Zuotai”

Abstract

Abstract: Tibetan medicine is an important traditional medicine in China. "Zuotai" is the most representative concoction in Tibetan medicine, which is one of the main raw materials used to formulate many kinds of precious Tibetan medicine preparations and plays a significant role in the Tibetan medicine system. Because of its complex composition and the presence of many heavy metals, the application and promotion of "Zuotai" in modern medical clinics are somewhat restricted. In this paper, we review the chemical composition, mechanism of action, safety and application of "Zuotai" in recent years, with the aim of providing reference for further research on “Zuotai”.
