Observation on the Therapeutic Effect of Acupoint Massage Combined with Umbilical Application of Chinese Medicine for Treating Damp-Heat Diarrhea in Children with Rotavirus Enteritis Based on the Theory of ‘Sudden and Forceful Diarrhea Belongs to Heat’

Abstract: Objective Based on the theory of Emergent Diarrhea and Tenesmus,All Are Fever, to explore the clinical efficacy and safety of acupressure combined with traditional Chinese medicine umbilical cord compresses in the treatment of pediatric rotavirus enteritis with damp-heat diarrhea. Methods The 80 infants with wet hot diarrhoea who were confirmed as RV enteritis in Pediatrics Clinic and In-Patient Section of Wuhu City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine between Sept 2023 and Feb 2024 were classified into two groups:1 and 2,respectively, and 40 patients.The control group was treated with pediatric diarrhea stop granules orally, and the observation group was treated with finger acupoint massage combined with traditional Chinese medicine umbilical cord compresses, with the same basic treatment for both groups. Both groups were treated with the same basic treatment.5 consecutive days of treatment was one course of treatment. The total effective rate of Chinese medicine symptoms,the improvement level of Chinese medicine symptoms points before and after the treatment, the recovery time of clinical symptoms and signs, the conversion rate of rotavirus, the improvement of quality of life score and the occurrence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results Compared with the control group, the effective rate of 95.00% was higher than 87.50%, and the difference was significant(P<0.05); the improvement of TCM symptom score, the recovery time of symptoms and signs, rotavirus turnover rate, QOL and QOL were significantly different(P<0.05 or P<0.001).In addition to 3 patients with vomiting in the control group, there were no side effects in the two groups, but only 3 patients with nausea. Conclusion Based on the theory of Emergent Diarrhea and Tenesmus, All Are Fever, applying acupoint massage combined with traditional Chinese medicine rotavirus enteritis with damp-heat diarrhea on the basis of conventional treatment in western medicine has remarkable efficacy, with faster symptomatic relief, accelerated conversion of rotavirus antibody to negative, good adherence, significant improvement in the quality of life and safety.
