Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of Huanglian Jiedu Decoction (HLJDD) combined with puerarin on glucose and lipid, vascular endothelial function and inflammatory factors in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Methods A total of 118 elderly T2DM patients admitted to Sun Simmiao Hospital in Yaozhou District of Tongchuan City from February 2020 to February 2023 were randomly divided into two groups. On the basis of conventional treatment, 59 cases in the reference group were treated with Huanglian Jiedu decoction, 59 cases in the combination group were treated with Huanglian Jiedu decoction combined with puerarin. Blood glucose, blood lipids, inflammatory factors, vascular endothelial function and other laboratory indicators were measured before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the levels of FPG, 2hPG and HbA1c in the two groups were lower than before treatment (P<0.05), and the 2hPG and HbA1c in the combination group were lower than those in the reference group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of TG and LDL-C in combination group were lower than before treatment (P<0.05), but there was no difference in blood lipid levels between groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and hs-CRP in 2 groups were lower than before treatment, and lower in combination group (P<0.05). After treatment, the level of NO in the combination group was higher than before treatment, and the level of ET-1 was lower than before treatment (P<0.05), and the level of NO in the combination group was higher than that in the reference group (P<0.05). Conclusion Huanglian Jiedu Tang combined with puerarin has stronger efficacy in lowering blood sugar, inhibiting inflammation, and improving endothelial function, and can be used as an auxiliary medication for elderly T2DM patients with poor blood sugar control.
