The Therapeutic Effect of Ciwuplus Injection and Acupuncture on Senile Insomnia and Its Effect on Melatonin and Serotonin Levels

Abstract: Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of Xiwujia injection combined with acupuncture on senile insomnia and the effects on melatonin and 5-hydroxytryptamine levels. Methods A total of 80 patients with senile insomnia (liver and kidney deficiency type) admitted to Ya 'an Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Sichuan Province from December 2020 to December 2022 were randomly divided into control group (n=40) and observation group (n=40). The control group received conventional western medicine treatment, and the observation group received Ciwujia injection combined acupuncture treatment. The improvement of sleep disorder, melatonin (MT) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) levels and adverse mood changes were compared between the two groups. Results There were no differences in sleep time, sleep time, sleep quality, sleep efficiency, daytime dysfunction, sleep disorder, sleep medication score and total score between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the above scores in both groups were decreased to different degrees, and the observation group was significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05). There were no differences in MT and 5-HT levels between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the levels of the above indexes were increased in different degrees in both groups, and the observation group was significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05). There was no difference in SAS and SDS scores between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the levels of the above indexes were decreased to different degrees in both groups, and the observation group was significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Acanthopanax injection combined with acupuncture and moxibustion can improve the sleep disorder of elderly patients with insomnia, increase the serum MT and 5-HT levels, and improve the adverse mood of patients, it is worth applying.
