Abstract: Objective To solve the problem of reduction of retention stability caused by excessive weight of prosthesis due to too thick base in the repair of severe alveolar ridge atrophy denture, and to improve the repair effect. Methods From November 2018 to April 2022, 20 patients with severe alveolar ridge atrophy and dentition loss were selected as the study subjects according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria from the Shan County Central Hospital affiliated to Jining Medical College. The experiment was conducted as a self control study. Each patient was treated with a hollow base to make a prosthesis and a traditional method to make a prosthesis, respectively. Among them, the group using a hollow base to make a prosthesis was treated as the experimental group, The prosthetic group was made using traditional methods. The masticatory efficiency and satisfaction were tested on the 7th and 31st days after the patient wore the prosthesis, and the data were recorded and analyzed statistically. Results On the 7th day, the masticatory efficiency of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05), and the satisfaction with comfort, retention, and mastication was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). There was no difference in the satisfaction with appearance, language, and firmness between the experimental group and the control group (P>0.05); On the 31st day, the masticatory efficiency was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05), and the satisfaction with mastication, retention, comfort, appearance, and language was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). There was no difference in the satisfaction with firmness between the control group and the control group (P>0.05). Conclusion Hollow base can solve the problem of reduction of retention stability caused by excessive weight of denture due to too thick base in the repair of severe alveolar ridge atrophy denture, and improve the masticatory efficiency and satisfaction of patients.
