Abstract: Objective To investigate the prognosis and clinical value of the improved nutritional support program based on the Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 Scale (NRS-2002) assessment and screening for elderly critically ill patients. Methods A total of 60 elderly critically ill patients admitted to the Second Division, Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, Korla Hospital from March 2020 to March 2022 were selected and divided into a conventional treatment group and a nutritional support treatment group according to the random number table method, 30 cases in each group; the conventional treatment group received conventional treatment, the nutritional support treatment group received the improved nutritional support program based on NRS-2002 assessment and screening; The nutritional status indicators, laboratory indicators, physical function indicators, quality of life [Abilities of Daily Living(Barthel index), health index number were compared between the two groups Table(EQ-5D index)], total hospital stay and prognosis. Results The body mass index, upper arm circumference and upper arm skinfold thickness on the day of discharge in the two groups were all higher than those before treatment, and the nutritional support treatment group on the day of discharge was higher than the conventional treatment group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Hemoglobin, serum albumin and fasting blood glucose on the day were higher than those before treatment, while serum creatinine and total bilirubin were lower than those before treatment, and the indicators in nutritional support treatment group were significantly changed compared with those in conventional treatment group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); The swallowing function scores of the two groups on the day of discharge were lower than those before treatment, the Barthel index and EQ-5D index were higher than those before treatment, and the scores of the nutritional support treatment group were significantly changed compared with those of the conventional treatment group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); The total hospital stay in the nutritional support treatment group was shorter than that in the conventional treatment group, and the rates of re-hospitalization and new infections during the follow-up period were lower than those in the conventional treatment group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05). Conclusion The treatment of elderly critically ill patients with improved nutritional support program based on NRS-2002 evaluation and screening has high clinical value, which is beneficial to improve the nutritional status and prognosis of patients.
