Abstract: Objective To investigate the scientific research ability and research training willingness for residents in the standardized resident training, to explore the scientific research needs of resident trainees, and to provide reference for optimizing the training program for resident trainees. Methods A total of 199 resident trainees from 25 residential training bases in different regions of China were recruited from November 16 to 20, 2021. The questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate their scientific research ability and scientific research training willingness. Results The investigation of scientific research ability showed that 80.9% of resident trainees mastered how to use the database to search English literature and Chinese literature (90.5%). 91.5% of the resident trainees are willing to participate in scientific research training. The main ways to participate in scientific research training include participating in the research projects of tutors (64.3%), learning research methods through literature (70.4%), conducting research under the guidance of tutors (54.8%), participating in research related lectures (53.7%), and autonomous learning (50.8%). 93.5% of the resident trainees expressed their willingness to participate in online research training, and 77.9% of the resident trainees expressed satisfaction with the effect of online training. Compared with non-dual track resident trainees, dual track resident trainees have a stronger ability to retrieve English and Chinese literature, read English literature proficiently, participate in research training and online training with a higher proportion. The epidemic has a greater impact on their completion of graduation projects. In addition, the proportion of the dual track resident trainees who “participate in the research project of the tutor” and “conduct research under the guidance of the tutor” is higher. Conclusion The resident trainees, especially the dual track resident trainees, have certain research ability and strong willingness to participate in research training, while the research training for non-dual track resident trainees is still insufficient. How to combine training mode and improve the research level of resident doctors under epidemic conditions still needs further exploration in practice.

Key words: resident trainees, dual track system, research consciousness, research ability, online training.
