Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of auricular acupuncture in the treatment of depression. Methods A computerized search of the Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, China Knowledge Network, VipInfo Chinese Journal Service Platform, EMBASE, PubMed, and Cochrane library databases was conducted for the period from the creation of the database to February 15, 2023, and Meta-analysis of literature meeting the inclusion criteria was performed using RevMan 5.4. Results The current auricular acupuncture treatment for depression is mainly based on vagus nerve stimulation of auricular points. The efficacy of auricular acupuncture therapy was comparable compared to the antidepressant western control group. Compared with the control stimulation group, auricular acupuncture therapy was superior to the control stimulation group. Conclusion Ear acupuncture therapy can significantly reduce the HAMD, BDI, and SDS scores of MDD patients, which in turn improves the clinical symptoms of depression and anxiety and improves the quality of life of MDD patients. Ear acupuncture therapy was relatively safe and effective, with no significant adverse effects.
