Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of children oral health education based on caries risk assessment on the oral health status of school-age children and their parents'oral health awareness. Methods A total of 294 cases of second-grade children from a primary school in Nanchong City who conducted collective pit and fissure sealant in Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College were studied by cluster-sampled. They were divided into cariostat-education group (group A) and traditional education group (group B) according to a random table. The traditional education group conducted conventional oral health education for children and their parents, and in the cariostat-education group, besides conventional education, cariostat was used to assess caries risk and then personalized oral health education was conduceted according to the evaluation results. In order to evaluate the impact of oral health education combined with caries susceptibility technology on the oral health status of school-age children, the dental caries, oral health status, the implementation of oral health care measures and parents'oral health knowledge of the three groups were compared before and after 6 months of education. Results After the intervention, there were differences in children's oral health status, implementation of oral health care measures and parents'oral health awareness among two groups (P<0.05). However, there was no statistical significance in caries (P>0.05). Conclusion The combination of caries activity test and oral health education can effectively improve parents'attention to children's oral condition and their knowledge of oral health, and improve children's oral health status effectively, which is beneficial to the long-term prevention of dental caries.
