Abstract: Objective To explore and analysis the effects of sequential acupuncture and moxibustion therapy on lumbar pain in patients with chronic lumbar muscle strain. Methods From September 2020 to December 2022, 86 patients with chronic lumbar muscle strain diagnosed and treated in Chongqing Zhongxian Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected as research objects. Accorded to the principle of 1:1 envelope random drawing, 86 patients were divided into acupuncture group and western medicine group with 43 cases in each groups. The western medicine group were treated with conventional western medicine. The acupuncture group were treated with sequential acupuncture therapy based on the treatment of the western medicine group. Both groups were treated and observed for 2 weeks. Comparing the total response rate of the western medicine group and the acupuncture group, the visual analog scale (VAS of lumbar pain) score, Oswestry dysfunction index questionnaire (ODI) score and lumbar flexion range. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of the acupuncture group were significantly higher than that of the western medicine group (P<0.05). The VAS score of lumbar pain in the acupuncture group and the western medicine group were lower than that before treatment, and the VAS score of lumbar pain in the acupuncture group after treatment were also significantly lower than that in the western medicine group (P<0.05). The Oswestry score of the acupuncture group and the western medicine group were lower than that before treatment, and the Oswestry score of the acupuncture group after treatment were also significantly lower than that of the western medicine group (P<0.05). The range of lumbar flexion in the western medicine group and the acupuncture group after treatment were significantly higher than that before treatment, and the range of lumbar flexion in the acupuncture group after treatment were also significantly higher than that in the western medicine group (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of sequential acupuncture therapy in patients with chronic lumbar muscle strain can promote the relief of lumbar pain, improve the overall treatment effect, improve the lumbar function of patients, and increase the range of lumbar flexion.
