Abstract: Objective To explore and study the relationship between serum S100A12, receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) and microvascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 96 patients with type 2 diabetes who were diagnosed and treated in Harbin Fourth Hospital from February 2021 to December 2021 were retrospectively selected as the research subjects to determine the occurrence of microvascular complications. The four parameters of platelet, serum S100A12 and sRAGE contents in all patients were detected, and the correlation and influencing factors of serum S100A12 and sRAGE in type 2 diabetes patients with microvascular complications were analyzed. Results There were 36 cases of diabetic microvascular complications (combined group) occurred in the 96 cases that accounted for 37.50%, included 20 cases of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, 10 cases of diabetic nephropathy, and 6 cases of diabetic retinopathy. The platelet distribution width and mean platelet volume in the combined group were significantly higher than those in the control group, the difference is statistically significant (P<0.05), and the platelet count and platelet volume were significantly lower than those in the control group, the difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). The serum levels of S100A12 and sRAGE in the combined group were significantly higher than those in the control group, the difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). In the 96 patients, Pearson analysis showed that serum S100A12 and sRAGE levels were positively correlated with the occurrence of microvascular complications (P<0.05). Multivariate stepwise Logistic regression analysis showed that serum S100A12 and sRAGE levels were important risk factors for microvascular complications (P<0.05). Conclusion Type 2 diabetes patients are often accompanied by microvascular complications, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy is more common. The serum levels of S100A12 and sRAGE in patients with diabetes microvascular complications are decreased. There is a correlation between serum S100A12 and sRAGE in type 2 diabetes patients and the occurrence of microvascular complications.
